Stayed for in

The house is 100 years old at it’s oldest part. It could be a charming cottage, as a home or a holiday let, but at the moment it’s not good enough to be either. It is lacking a lot of tlc. It’s advertised on several sites and we had hoped the owner or marketing company had addressed the negative reviews, but they haven’t. We were told that the tatty old furniture was something the owner might return to one day (she lives in Germany) but if she did she’d likely take it back to the charity shop it looks like it came from. It’s a shame because it would not take much to return it to It’s former glory and then it would be worth the letting fee. Be aware that the house is heated by a Rayburn and the instructions for this are barely adequate, so if you’ve never used one, insist that the marketers have someone to welcome you and show you what to do or you’ll have no heating. There are no curtains so you’ll rise with the sun. It’s not a complete disaster, if it has been thoroughly cleaned when you arrive and Rayburn is running and you’re not overpaying you might be happy there.
The house is in lovely well-kept grounds that would benefit from a floral cottage garden. It’s very much a get away from it all village, quiet and peaceful, and located 45 minutes drive from the nearest town Broadford, which has several restaurants and shops, supermarket, petrol. Much nicer than Portree which is a bit of a mess and the worst place on the island. There’s a smaller store and petrol about 20 minutes away at the ferry port. Be ready for a daily drive through pothole filled single track roads – though it’s worth it if you want to get away from the noise and relax – the Sleight Peninsula is stunning and we’re very happy we stayed there (apart from the cottage needing attention).
The marketing company provided great service and addressed our concerns and we had no problems with them.
