Welcome to Creag Dubh– an island and highland home privately perched atop the Braes on Skye, with breath-taking panoramic sea and mountain views across the Sound of Raasay and beyond.
CREAG DUBH is just 10 minutes drive from Portree- Skye’s bustling capital offering provisions, pubs and postcards. However, CREAG DUBH is nearly three miles up a single-track road and so feels like a word away. This means the house is best accessed by car, but in return you get unrivalled tranquillity.
From CREAG DUBH there are stunning sea views over the Sound of Raasay, complete with a mountain backdrop to the Cuillin range, the Dun Caan volcano on Raasay (thankfully extinct!) and, on a clear day, all the way to the Five Sisters of Kintail on mainland Scotland. There are fantastic walks straight out the front door in just about every direction, including nearby Ben Tianavaig and the beach of Camustianavaig, and a spacious garden with outdoor seating to enjoy the spectacular scenery.
The house itself has been recently refurnished and updated and we are continually upgrading- think highland retreat meets modern lifestyle, with a nautical twist.
The centrepiece of CREAG DUBH’s accommodation is the large lounge and dining room with picture windows looking south and east to capture the sun and take in those spectacular views. There’s a chaise longue right in the centre where you can spend hours just watching the view, as well as a 3-seater sofa and armchair. We also have a 42-inch smart TV (and Wi-Fi of course) so you can stream from your favourite platforms (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ etc.) for movie nights. There’s an electric wood-burning style stove for those cosy evenings, as well as central heating throughout the house. The large wooden dining table has been lovingly upcycled (along with a number of other wooden pieces throughout CREAG DUBH) and the dining area enjoys stunning sea and mountain views.
The large, modern kitchen is well-equipped with an electric oven and four hobs- perfect for the chefs- as well as a fridge, toaster, and kettle. We also provide teas, coffees (and a coffee grinder for the coffee aficionados!), sugar, a starter-selection of spices and cooking oil in reuseable containers to help reduce waste. There’s a dishwasher and dishwasher tables- because who loves doing the dishes? We also provide washing-up liquid and hand soap. The kitchen looks over the rear garden and enjoys lots of evening sun.
The main bedroom has incredible sea views and morning sun straight from the super-king bed- perfect for lazy mornings. There are bedside cabinets on both sides, complete with lights and USB ports for charging devices overnight. There’s also a hairdryer, clothes stand with hangers, a fan, large mirror, console table and stool.

The shower room is spacious and with lots of natural light, a large shower, W.C., wash basin and mirror. We provide hand soap, shampoo and shower gel (again in reuseable containers) and of course bath sheets and handtowels for all guests.
The entrance hallway is large and bright with ample space for shoes and jackets. The west coast of Scotland can bring all seasons in a day, and Skye is no exception. We recommend bringing sturdy hiking boots and a variety of clothing to match all weathers as you never quite know what you’re going to get! With its stunning location and picture windows, CREAG DUBH is perfect for romantic getaways or families; for hill walkers and curious coastal explorers; as a place to unwind or to unleash your creative side.
CREAG DUBH is also bookable as a one-bedroom home, where you get access to one bedroom, sleeping up to two guests at a discounted rate. If you require separate bedrooms please select the 3 person rate when booking.
A baby cot for infants and a highchair can be added during the booking process.
Guests will have private access to CREAG DUBH, except for a few rooms which we keep locked while we’re away.
While CREAG DUBH is all on one level with private vehicle access and ample parking by our main door, there are a small number of steps leading up to the house which may not make it suitable for those with restricted mobility.
Due to our own two dogs who stay with us here in the winter (and who have very sensitive noses), we’re unfortunately not able to welcome pets.
