Solas, Kensaleyre, is a charming holiday cottage set over three floors with views of Loch Snizort. From the elevated garden, and on a clear day, the Cuillins can also be enjoyed in the distance. A short stroll will take you to the edge of Loch Snizort, a great location for birdwatching, photographing sunsets and a spot of wild swimming. Kensaleyre is a 10 min drive from Portree, the main town on the Isle of Skye, and about 15 mins drive from Uig where the ferries to the Western Isles depart from. Solas makes a great base from which to explore the island and is ideal for groups and families looking to enjoy walks in the local area.
The welcoming entrance hall has a boot store and coat hooks for leaving outdoor gear behind. The lounge / dining room is well appointed with a two seater and a three seater sofa on which to relax. The patio doors lead onto the steps at the front of the house which give lovely views over Loch Snizort and to the Cuillins. There is a Smart TV with FreeSat, and guests are welcome to use their Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts to view online programmes. An electric fire creates a warm and cosy atmosphere in addition to the gas central heating system. A selection of games and books can be enjoyed in the evenings. The dining area has an extendable dining table with six dining chairs. There are additional dining chairs within the property.
The kitchen is well equipped with a cafeterie, electric hob, grill and oven, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is a breakfast bar area with two stools, perfect for a morning coffee, and an Alexa to play your favourite tunes. There is a large freezer in the shed for guests to use.
The stairs lead to the first floor where there are two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and king size beds. Both have bedside tables with side lights, a coffee maker, hanging space, mirror and hairdryer. There is a separate W.C. and wash hand basin for guests to use. On the second floor there is another double bedroom with king size bed, bedside tables and side lights. It has a built-in wardrobe for hanging clothes. And there is a single bedroom with a desk for guests to use if having to work whilst on holiday. They share a bathroom with W.C., wash hand basin and shower. There is a cot and high chair available, please bring your own linen for the cot.
Outside there are grassy lawns to the front and rear of the property from which guests can enjoy the views. There is an outdoor seating area at the side of the house with a sofa, table and two chairs plus a smaller table and a couple of chairs at the front. The gravel driveway provides parking for up to three vehicles.
Solas will accept a maximum of 2 well behaved dogs for an additional cleaning fee.
*Please note* The property is fenced but has a cattle grid at the entrance to the driveway with no gate. Please use your own discretion leaving your pets unattended. The property has a security camera, This faces the front garden and car parking area.

We had the most amazing time! Lots of space for 6 of us (4 adults 2 teens) it was lovely to sit and have a meal together as we have never gotten to before!
Lovely and clean, and a few starters bits (tea/,coffee,biscuits…you know the essentials)
Easy to use washer/drier. Over and hob worked fine.
Perfect for a stay if you want to be closer to main town but out enough to do sight seeing! Thank you so much! Would recommend!

My only deduction of points for the comfort was the sofas in the lounge, whilst good, one had the unfortunate habit of sliding down on the seats!

This is a very comfortable modern house, well appointed with 3.5 bathrooms, 3 double bedrooms and a study/single room.
It’s well furnished and decorated in a slightly bland Highland style
The location is good but the views are a bit limited especially when compared to other parts of Skye.
There are some slightly over-complicated instructions for the rubbish – this should be taken care of by the cleaners/ owners.
The only negative is the cost – it is very expensive for what it is.
