Ploughman’s Cottage

We spent a wonderful week of family vacation on the Isle of Skye, and one of the main reasons why every single one of us loved it so much was the amazing Ploughman’s Cottage. This is a truly perfect place for a holiday: the house is huge, with more than enough space for five people – it actually takes some time to walk from the “south-west wing” to the “north-east wing” :-))) The facilities are excellent, everything is there and perfectly arranged. The oven is a dream if you enjoy cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner as we do. All the beds are extremely comfortable. The breakfast corner was the perfect spot to meet in the morning and plan the day’s activities. The dining room with its huge table was just right for lunch and dinner. The bathtub in the main bathroom is a beautiful old tub in perfect condition. The second bathroom felt almost like home with its rain shower, as we have a similar one in our own house. Not to forget the cosy living room with its couches and the small, warming wood burner. There was always a warm and welcoming atmosphere, enhanced by the many small lamps placed around the house. We all really enjoyed the collection of games! Our sons loved playing the wonderful piano! On top of that, the option to charge our plug-in hybrid car was fantastic for our trips across Skye. All major sights like The Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing, Neist Point, Portree, etc., can be reached in 20 to 40 minutes from Edinbane, making it the perfect central base to explore the island. We are truly grateful that we could spend our holiday at Ploughman’s Cottage. Finally, the booking process and the continuous support from Island & Highlands Cottages were outstanding.

Spent a lovely week at Ploughman’s cottage with our family of 3 kids aged 8 to 15. The cottage is well heated, comfortable and nicely decorated. Kitchen is well-equipped for home cooked meals. Edinbane has a great children’s playground, an inn (more restaurant than pub but you can also go just for a drink) and the award-winning Edinbane Lodge restaurant within a few minutes’ walk. It’s convenient for the Dunvegan area, Waternish and not too bad for walks in the north of the island, but a bit far for some of the other walks we did (about an hour to drive to the Fairy Pools or Glenbrittle car parks).

Just stayed last Monday to Friday 2/9 to 6/9 and the property was excellent bedrooms very good size and the lounge/kitchen open plan and very spacious. The location was brilliant for visiting parts of the Island we wanted to go to. Would 100% recommend this little gem of a place.
