Elgol, South Skye
Taigh Druim is a 3 bedroom (sleeps 6) former croft house which was extended and fully renovated by Edinburgh architect, Helen Lucas. The ground floor of the house benefits from large picture windows which provide stunning views of the Cuillin mountains and the nearby Isles. Outside a timber deck is perched on top of the ridge which provides a fabulous outlook directly over the sea below; a great place to sit and enjoy the ever changing views, sunsets and weather.
Taigh Druim is peacefully located away from the Broadford to Elgol road and the tranquil location only enhances the feeling of being at one with nature.
The Skye coastal path passes directly behind the house with access to Camusanary and beyond. There are numerous other local walks direct from the house. Elgol harbour is a 5 minute walk away and from here boats provide access to Loch Coruisk and the nearby Isles.
The spacious house provides two reception rooms, a kitchen and three bedrooms together with two bathrooms (a bathroom and a shower room).
The ground floor accommodation is largely open plan and the generous room sizes and layout enable the accommodation to flow seamlessly from one space to another. The large picture windows and the log burner are the focal points of the triple aspect sitting room which also provides direct access to the garden and deck beyond; the views from the 2 sofas are something to behold. The dining room and kitchen both enjoy views to the south east and north west (directly across to the Cuillin mountains). The entrance hall and bathroom complete the ground floor accommodation. The 1st floor provides three bedrooms (two doubles and a twin) and a shower room.
The house is beautifully furnished throughout with a mixture of modern and antique pieces and is very well equipped; the kitchen has a large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer together with a microwave oven and a coffee pod coffee machine (with hot milk frother). The sitting room benefits from a television (no TV channels) and DVD player together with plenty of games, books and DVD's.
Outside the house is surrounded by lawns on three sides with wild margins and there is a generous parking area with space for three cars.
Broadford is the nearest local town (just over a ½ hour drive away along a dramatic and scenic road). Broadford provides a large supermarket, petrol station, chemist, cafes, restaurants, an art gallery together with a whisky store and the Isle of Skye Candle Company. Further afield there are numerous places to visit including the picturesque island capital, Portree, the Waternish peninsula and Dunvegan (places to visit include the Dunvegan Castle and the Talisker Whisky Distillery). The local arthouse cinema at LAS near Portree is worth noting….just in case the weather turns! Within the same building as the cinema is a further Isle of Skye Candle Company outlet and Gasta Port Righ where sourdough pizzas, cakes and coffee are available throughout the day. Skye is also home to numerous excellent restaurants and cafes so it is well worth reading up before your visit in order to make reservations.
There are two local restaurants within a short walk of Taigh Druim; the Elgol Bistro and the Coruisk Hotel, however booking in advance is advised.
