Duirinish by Plockton, Lochalsh
On entering through the vestibule, the main hallway leads to the principal rooms. The lounge and conservatory form a spacious and grand drawing room that retains a cosy ambience with the log fire blazing. The conservatory offers 180 degree views of the gardens and beyond towards the Isle of Skye, Isle of Raasay and the Bealach na Ba. It has ample seating for all guests and there is a flatscreen TV with Freeview and DVD player. There are two doors leading onto patios on either side, fantastic areas for enjoying the views on sunny days! There is garden furniture to use for dining outside and a gas BBQ is available.
The kitchen has an AGA as well as an electric hob on the island which also provides ample workspace. There is also a fridge and dishwasher. A breakfast table with chairs is set within the bay window, perfect for waking up to in the morning. Next door is the utility room with a large fridge / freezer and washing machine. As there is an external door leading to the garden, it can be a great place to leave muddy boots and jackets. There is a drying room in one of the outbuildings for leaving damp jumpers and jackets.
The formal dining room has a large dining table which can seat 12 guests comfortably. There are matching china dining sets and a collection of glassware that can be used as well as silverware for dressing the table, ideal for creating special occasions.
There is a study with a large desk to work from, internet access (WiFi is available throughout the house) and a scanner/printer. Next door there is a cloakroom with W.C. and wash hand basin.
Also on the ground floor there is a smaller kitchen with dining table and chairs and a snug second lounge with flatscreen TV and DVD player. Along with three bedrooms upstairs, this section called the "wing" can either be open to the main lodge or the connecting doorways can be closed creating a private wing for couples or small families staying with the larger party.
The staircase leads up to the landing from which the bedrooms lead off. There are two spacious double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms within the main lodge along with a bathroom with bath, W.C. and wash hand basin as well as a shower room with a large walk-in shower. There are two single bedrooms and a further double bedroom in the "wing" area as well as shower room with a large walk in shower, W.C. and wash hand basin.
There are outbuildings to the side of Duirinish Lodge. One is a games room complete with pool table and perfect for evening entertainment and the other outbuilding provides a drying room for damp outdoor wear. There is ample parking for guest' vehicles by the main entrance.
Within the 18 acres of gardens and private woodlands there are paths leading you to summerhouses, ponds and wooden seats from which to enjoy the views perfect for lazy day adventures. There is an organic vegetable and fruit garden with raised beds and greenhouses containing seasonal fruit and vegetables. Produce likely to be available this summer include lettuces, tomatoes, courgettes, potatoes, leeks, brussel sprouts, onions, carrots, turnips, cabbages, salad onions, rhubarb, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, gooseberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, apples, pears, plums and more! Guests are welcome to pick ripened fruit and vegetables from the garden during their stay.
The village of Plockton with local pubs and restaurants providing excellent local cuisine and live traditional music are just 2 miles away. Boats can be hired as well as kayaks to explore the coastline, or perhaps enjoy the local paths that will take you along the shore to see evidence of otters.
