Autumn in Skye and Lochalsh

Autumnal greetings from Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye!

It’s been a bustling summer and it has been wonderful to have the buzz return to the area. The sun has shone giving some fantastic weather conditions and visitors and locals alike have been able to get out and enjoy the sights. But we’re all now starting to look forward to autumn returning!

Autumn is a colourful time for Skye and the highlands of Scotland. The heather is still blooming, the bracken is gently turning the hillsides auburn and leaves start to show hues of greens, yellows, oranges and reds you never knew existed! The first snow can appear on the hill tops and frosts make the ground crunch underfoot whilst sparkling in the sunshine. Quieter than the summer, you can lose the crowds easily whilst enjoying a stroll or two!

We have a few cottages for enjoying this autumn! There is something for everyone!

Ruadh, Balmeanach

Ruadh, Balmeanach is a fantastic holiday home offering spacious open planing living for families and friends looking to gather on the Isle of Skye. It enjoys superb views to the Cuillin Ridge and over to MacLeod’s Tables. With four double bedrooms, a wood burning stove to curl up with, and two seating areas so everyone can spread out, it makes an excellent base for a long weekend or a few weeks!

1 Borve, by Portree

1 Borve, by Portree is a cosy holiday cottage within 10 mins drive of Portree and central for exploring the Trotternish peninsula or the west of the island with Neist Point and Dunbeg Broch. The front and back gardens are well enclosed so the family pet is very welcome to stay too! With two bedrooms and an open lounge / dining / kitchen, it is perfect for couples or families alike.

14 Upper Milovaig

14 Upper Milovaig is tucked away on the west of the island, just 3 miles from Neist Point. Looking towards the Western Isles on the horizon, it is perfect for sunsets and watching the world go by! There are wonderful clifftop walks in the area, and some great dining too! From local cafes serving great food such as Cafe Lephin in Glendale, to fine dining at The Three Chimneys! If you are looking for something a little special, this may be it!

Taigh nam Braithrean, Valtos

Taigh nam Braithrean, Valtos by Staffin is a three bedroom family home that has stunning views over the Sound of Raasay towards the mountains of Torridon and beyond! Inside it has everything you could need, whilst outside in the garden there are chairs and fire pit to relax with on a fine evening!

Glendale Studio Pods

Moonrise (pictured) and Blue Skye, Glendale Studio Pods, have become firm favourites after opening this summer. Located on a croft in Glendale, they enjoy a woodland setting whilst a short walk will take you to the brow of the hill where a bench awaits, as does the view! Handcrafted, they both showcase what can be created from natural materials.

MacKinnon’s Retreat, Portree

MacKinnon’s Retreat, Portree is a lovely two bedroom holiday home, just a 5 min walk from the town centre. The open plan dining / lounge / kitchen leads onto the back garden through patio doors, and there are two double bedrooms upstairs. Ideal for friends or couples travelling together!

If you are headed our way for a holiday in one of our cottages or planning to, it’s best to come prepared. Remember Google is your friend!
